Party games with just a phone: QR codes, 30-second duels, and a leaderboard

Game ideas for birthdays, BBQs, and office parties using only your guests' phones: a blocks.pw duel tournament, a couple quiz, and a QR code photo album.

Every party has the same dead zone: that stretch between the toast and the cake when half your guests are staring at their phones. The fix isn't confiscating devices — it's putting those phones to work for the party. With QR codes placed in the right spots, every guest's phone becomes a game controller.

1. Duel tournament: 30 seconds per match

The star of the night is blocks.pw — 30-to-40-second reflex duels, in the browser, nothing to install. It works like this:

  1. The host creates an arena at blocks.pw/new and plays their own sequence.
  2. The link becomes a QR code via our free generator and gets printed on the tables.
  3. Each guest scans, plays the mini-games (reflex, smash, stack, memory...), and tries to beat the host's score.
  4. At the end of the night, the best score wins a symbolic prize — and the worst one does the dishes.

Because duels are async, nobody has to stop the party: everyone plays whenever they want, and the argument about who "jumped the gun" fuels itself. For competitive groups, the country leaderboard settles any moral tie.

2. Couple quiz (for bridal showers and anniversaries)

At couple-centered parties, the GiftsQR couple quiz is the game that delivers: the couple answers beforehand, guests guess live, and the score reveals who really knows them.

3. Collaborative photo album via QR code

Spread the QR for the Tunel — our digital event album — and guests upload party photos straight from their phones, no app required. The next morning, the couple (or the birthday person) wakes up to a finished album.

4. An invitation that arrives with a game inside

If the party hasn't happened yet, start the game early: the digital invitation with RSVP confirms attendance via QR code, and you can include the duel link right in the invite — whoever RSVPs joins the tournament.

Bonus: guests living abroad

Got a beloved guest overseas? They can join everything: blocks.pw duels cross borders by link, the album takes photos from any country — and if the party overlaps with a Brazil match, they can watch the same Brazilian broadcast with a Brazilian IP through Tunells, our WireGuard VPN with QR code setup (of course it's a QR code).
